This 1960 MG MGA 1600 Mk I coupe was purchased in early 2023 by the seller, who subsequently performed a body-off refurbishment that was completed in mid-2024. The car was stripped and repainted in Iris Blue. Its 1.6-liter inline-four was rebuilt and bored .020″ over, fitted with an MGB cylinder head and an aftermarket camshaft, its dual SU carburetors were rebuilt, and an aluminum radiator, stainless-steel exhaust system, and oil cooler were installed. Kilmat sound-deadening material was applied to the interior before it was retrimmed in black upholstery with blue piping. In addition, the wiring harness was replaced, and the brakes and suspension were overhauled. Equipment includes a four-speed manual transmission, four-lug 15″ steel wheels, front disc brakes, crank windows, and a wood shift knob. The MG earned the People’s Choice award at the Chicago British Car Festival in September 2025. This MGA coupe is now offered with refurbishment photos, hubcaps, a car cover, and an Illinois title in the seller’s name.

The car was stripped and refinished in Iris Blue during the aforementioned refurbishment, according to the seller. Exterior equipment includes a body-contour bright grille, Lucas PL tri-bar headlamps, vent windows, and chrome front and rear bumpers with bumperettes. The windshield weatherstripping was replaced under current ownership. Pitting is noted on the trim.

Silver-painted four-lug 15″ steel wheels are mounted with 155/80 America Select tires. The braking system was updated with slotted and drilled front rotors and replacement front calipers, rear drums, rear wheel cylinders, and braided lines. The front coil springs and shocks were rebuilt, an Addco 3/4″ front sway bar was installed, and the rear leaf springs were replaced along with the front and rear suspension bushings. A set of aged hubcaps will accompany the vehicle.

The bucket seats and the door panels were retrimmed in black upholstery with blue piping during the refurbishment. The gray carpeting and the white headliner were replaced using materials sourced from Scarborough Faire. Other interior appointments include a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror, a heater, a map light, crank windows, a wood shift knob, black rubber floor mats, and a rear parcel shelf. A dual-USB power outlet has been added.

The seller cut replacement wood floorboards and coated them in marine-grade epoxy. 80-mil Kilmat insulation was installed in the interior and the trunk compartment during the refurbishment.

The banjo-style steering wheel is secured to an adjustable column and fronts Jaeger instrumentation including a 120-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 43k miles, approximately 1,200 of which were added under current ownership.

The 15GB 1.6-liter inline-four was rebuilt in 2024 and fitted with .020″-over “flat-top” pistons. The engine is further augmented by a “fast” road cam, an MGB cylinder head, hardened exhaust-valve seats, a finned valve cover, an aluminum radiator, a stainless-steel oil cooler, rebuilt dual SU H4s carburetors, open-element air cleaners, and replacement valves, valve guides, and wiring harness.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The seller replaced the clutch, and a stainless-steel Bell exhaust system is fitted.
