Earlier this week, we reported on a couple of fairly widespread bugs that were affecting early iPhone 18 Pro users. Now it seems as though both bugs are related to the same issue and a fix is on the way.

According to 9to5Mac, Apple is preparing to issue a software update early next week, likely iOS 27.0.1, to address the issue. 

According to numerous reports, Apple’s Face ID system has been glitchy on the new phones, failing to authenticate when unlocking and paying with Apple Pay, and then forcing phones to restart. In a seemingly separate issue, users also reported randomly unresponsive touchscreens. Now it seems like both issues are related and will be fixed in next week’s software update.

Apple reduced the size of the Dynamic Island on the new phones by moving the infrared camera under the screen, so initially we wondered if the issue might be hardware related. While that still the case for some users, Apple appears to be confident that it will fix most problems through a software update.

This isn’t the first time Apple needed to push out a fix for early issues with new phones, nor is it the first time a new phone exhibited touchscreen issues. Most notably, back in 2020, Apple issued a Display Module Replacement Program for iPhone 11 phones that had unresponsive touchscreens.
