This 1980 MGB roadster is said to have been purchased new by the seller’s uncle-in-law in 1980, and it was re-powered with a Ford 5.0-liter V8 and a Tremec T5 five-speed manual transmission after it was acquired by the seller in 2015. Additional work included rust repairs, adding wheel arch flares, and deleting the corner markers and beltline trim before the exterior was refinished in matte black. Further modifications consist of a narrowed Ford 8.8″ rear end with a limited-slip differential, Ford Mustang-specification rear traction bars, Moss Motors suspension components, 15″ alloy wheels, tubular headers, an aftermarket wiring harness, bucket seats, safety harnesses, a roll bar, short-throw shifter, an aftermarket steering wheel, and replacement instrumentation. This modified MGB is now offered at no reserve with modification literature, owner’s manuals, and a clean Massachusetts title in the seller’s name.

The seller tells us that metal wheel arch flares were added during the build, and the front fenders and outer rocker panels are said to have been replaced under current ownership to address rust. Additional exterior revisions included removing the bright beltline trim, deleting the factory corner markers, lightening and trimming the bumpers, and modifying the rear bumper to accommodate a low-mounted license plate.

Silver 15″ six-spoke alloy wheels with machine-finished lips are mounted with 225/60R15 Fuzion Touring tires, and a spare wheel and tire are stowed in the trunk. The front suspension features Moss Motors heavy-duty springs and factory-specification lever shocks with upgraded heavy-duty Moss Motors valves, while the back utilizes factory-specification leaf springs and adjustable tube shocks as well as modified Ford Mustang-style rear traction bars. Polyurethane bushings are fitted. Braking is provided by power-assisted front discs with EBC Greenstuff pads, stainless steel lines, and rear drums that have been drilled for four-lug axles. The discs and shoes have also been replaced. The subframe rails have reportedly been reinforced at the rear spring mounts.

A pair of bucket seats trimmed in black cloth with red stitching have been installed, along with red four-point safety harnesses and a roll bar. Additional appointments include an aftermarket white shift knob and short-throw shifter, replacement carpeting, a 12-volt power outlet, and an air/fuel ratio gauge mounted in the center stack. The battery has been relocated to the trunk. The seller tells us that the seats have been mounted rearward to increase legroom, and the roll bar was also moved several inches back. The seller notes that soft top is deteriorated and cannot be fitted correctly due to the roll bar position. A crack is present in the center of the dashboard.

An aftermarket three-spoke steering wheel fronts a replacement 160-mph speedometer and a Sunpro tachometer as well as a fuel level gauge and aftermarket readouts for oil pressure, voltage, and coolant temperature. The digital odometer indicates 2k miles. The seller estimates chassis mileage to be 48k, and true mileage is unknown.

The high-output 5.0-liter V8 was sourced from a circa 1987 Ford and installed in 2021 using a Mantell Motorsport V8 retrofit kit, according to the seller, and it is said to be equipped with a high-performance Bullet roller cam setup. An Advance Auto-Wire harness has been installed, and additional details consist of Ford Racing valve covers, an electric fuel pump, Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, aluminum radiator, manual choke, and tubular headers. The heater valve is manually operated from the engine bay. The seller notes an oil drip after the car has been driven.

A rebuilt Tremec T5 five-speed manual transmission was installed during the build, and the seller tells us that additional modifications include a custom driveshaft and a narrowed Ford 8.8″ rear end with a 3.90:1 limited-slip differential and custom Dutchman axles. The car is also equipped with a fabricated dual exhaust system. Oil seepage is noted from the transmission output shaft seal.

MGB V8 conversion literature and owner’s manuals are included in the sale along with a front tow bar. The awards displayed in the gallery will not accompany the car.
