This 1971 Lotus Elan +2S was refurbished in yellow over black circa 2010, and it was modified around that time with a Spydercars spaceframe chassis along with a Painless Wiring harness, rear CV axle conversion, aftermarket tubular exhaust header, adjustable coilovers, 14″ Minilite knock-off wheels, a Wilwood brake master cylinder, third brake light, LED pop-up headlights, and a replacement wood-accented dashboard. The car was sold on BaT in December 2023, and stainless-steel exhaust components are said to have been installed before the seller’s October 2025 acquisition. Subsequent work has involved rebuilding the rear brake calipers, refurbishing the seatbelts and handbrake mechanism, installing electronic ignition, heavy-duty differential output shafts, and a Kienzle dashboard clock as well as a replacement water pump, ambient temperature gauge, fuel regulator, and fuel filter. This Type 50 Elan is powered by a 1.6-liter twin-cam inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and further equipped with twin Zenith-Stromberg carburetors. It is now offered with a workshop manual, an owner’s manual, a parts catalogue, service records, a set of uninstalled Mikuni carburetors, spare parts, tools, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The Elan +2 debuted in 1967 and featured a 12″ longer wheelbase than the standard Elan, which made room for two rear seats. This example’s body was refurbished in yellow with a white over-the-top stripe c. 2010, and was affixed to a Spydercars spaceframe chassis at that time. Exterior details include fog lights, twin fender-mounted mirrors, rectangular taillights, and twin exhaust outlets. A LED pop-up headlight conversion and third brake light were added under previous ownership. Close-up photos of paint chips and the exterior condition are viewable in the gallery below.

The 14” Minilite wheels are secured by three-eared knock-off spinners and are mounted with 195/60 Falken Azenis tires. Braking is via four-wheel discs. The car rides on independent suspension that features tubular control arms and adjustable coilovers at each corner. A Wilwood brake master cylinder is said to have been added before 2023. The rear brake calipers were rebuilt in December 2025, and the handbrake linkage was reconnected, modified, and adjusted at that time.

The 2+2 cabin houses black vinyl fixed-back seats with matching door panels and color-coordinated carpets. The three-point seatbelts were refurbished with replacement webbing in October 2025, and a replacement reverse light switch was installed two months later. Additional appointments include a heater, a wood shift knob, and Lotus-branded mats. A split is present on the vinyl on the driver’s headrest, and wear is visible on the outer driver’s seat bolster and floor mat.

The three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel fronts a wood-accented dashboard housing a 140-mph Smiths speedometer and a suite of centrally-mounted auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 47k miles, approximately 2,500 of which were added under current ownership. A replacement Kienzle clock was installed under current ownership. The seller tells us that the tachometer needs to be converted to function with the electronic ignition system. The ambient temperature gauge is inoperative, and a replacement gauge is included in the sale. The previous owner indicated the total mileage is unknown.

The 1.6-liter inline-four was rebuilt and modified circa 2010, according to the seller, and it features twin overhead camshafts, twin Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, and an aftermarket tubular exhaust header. An upgraded alternator and Painless Wiring harness were installed under previous ownership, and a 123 electronic ignition setup was installed following the 2023 auction. A replacement canister-style water pump was installed in March 2026, along with a replacement timing chain tensioner, distributor, throttle linkage, engine gaskets, and spark plugs. The seller notes that the thermostat, fuel filter, and pressure regulator have been replaced.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. A rear CV axle conversion was reportedly completed in the 2010s. A replacement stainless-steel exhaust system was retrofitted under previous ownership between 2023 and 2025, and additional work since 2024 included the installation of heavy-duty differential output shafts.

A collection of spare parts is included in the sale, including a stock alternator, the removed rear axles, a set of Mikuni HSR 42 carburetors, and more, as shown in the gallery.
