This 4.0-liter inline-six was originally built for use in an Aston Martin DBS and was purchased by the seller approximately 15 years ago from the estate of an Aston Martin collector. The engine’s rebuild and service history under prior ownership is unknown, and it has not been run under current ownership. A video of the engine being rotated by hand is included in the gallery below. This Aston Martin engine is offered at no reserve in Bedford, New Hampshire.

Aston Martin built the DBS from 1967 through 1972. Its 3,995cc DOHC inline-six was carried over from the DB5 and was rated at 282 horsepower in standard guise. Vantage examples had a factory rating of 325 horsepower.

Serial number 400/3820/S is shown on the engine block, and additional casting numbers are provided in the photo gallery below. The seller reports that correspondence from Aston Martin’s historian indicated that this engine was separated from a 1969 Aston Martin with chassis number DBS/5320/LAC.
