This 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SL was initially purchased by the selling dealer from a local owner in the 1980s. Over the ensuing decades, they sold and subsequently repurchased it multiple times from long-term customers before acquiring it most recently in 2017. Finished in Signal Red over black MB-Tex, the car is powered by a 2.8-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes a black convertible top, a removable hardtop, 14″ steel wheels with painted covers, power steering, a Becker Mexico cassette stereo, and air conditioning. This W113 SL is now offered with an owner’s manual, service records dating to the 1980s, a car cover, a hardtop stand, and a New Jersey title.

The W113 SL was designed by Friedrich Geiger, Béla Barényi, and Paul Bracq and was introduced to the public at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show. This example is finished in Signal Red and features a black convertible top along with a body-color removable hardtop. Additional equipment includes US-specification headlights, dual side mirrors, a retractable antenna, and chrome bumpers with overriders. The selling dealer notes that the car was repainted under previous ownership.

The 14″ steel wheels feature covers with painted centers and are mounted with 185-section Michelin MXV-P tires. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is provided by power-assisted four-wheel discs.

The cabin houses bucket seats upholstered in black MB-Tex that extends to the door panels. Interior appointments include a Becker Mexico cassette stereo, an analog clock, a floor-mounted gear shifter, and air conditioning.

The two-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and frames VDO instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline as well as gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 1,300 miles and has rolled over.

The 2.8-liter M130 inline-six was factory equipped with Bosch fuel injection and was rated at 180 horsepower and 193 lb-ft of torque when new.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission.
