One-Family-Owned 1962 Austin-Healey 3000 BT7 Mk II

This 1962 Austin-Healey 3000 BT7 Mk II was purchased new in May 1962 from Agence Française Austin in Paris, France, by the seller’s father, who at the time was stationed in Europe with the United States Army. The car was shipped to New York in September 1962 and driven to Oregon, and later that year it was shipped from Seattle, Washington, to Anchorage, Alaska. After limited use in Alaska, the Healey was shipped back to Washington state in 1966, and it was used infrequently and stored in the Pacific Northwest until being recommissioned around 2000. The vehicle was repainted in Healey Blue in the 1990s, and the interior is trimmed in black leather. Three SU carburetors feed the 2.9-liter inline-six, which is paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The seller acquired the Healey in 2010. Work performed between May 2024 and February 2026 has involved overhauling the cooling, ignition, braking, and suspension systems as well as rebuilding the carburetors and the speedometer, installing seatbelts, and replacing the 15″ wire wheels, tires, fuel tank, and clutch. This BT7 is now offered with a removable hardtop, side curtains, and a luggage rack as well as 1962 purchase paperwork, manufacturer’s literature, a workshop manual, service records since 2024, spare parts including a set of wheels, and a Washington title in the seller’s name.

The seller’s father ordered the Austin-Healey in April 1962. The document above shows that the vehicle would be blue and would come with a hardtop. A number of papers from 1962 detail the car’s delivery and eventual shipment to the United States, as shown in the photo gallery below.

The car was repainted in Healey Blue approximately 30 years ago, according to the seller. Equipment includes a body-color hardtop, a hood scoop, bright trim, dual exhaust outlets, and chrome bumpers with overriders. A torn convertible top will accompany the vehicle, as will a top frame, a tonneau cover, and hard side curtains with sliding windows. The seller notes dings in the paint plus bubbling on the driver-side door and fender and also on the passenger-side quarter panel.

Chrome-finished 15″ knock-off wire wheels from Motor Wheel Service were purchased in mid-2024 along with 185/70 Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. The servo-assisted front disc brakes and rear drums were updated in 2024 with replacement of the master cylinder, calipers, shoes, wheel cylinders, bearings, handbrake cable, and fluid. In addition, the brake booster was rebuilt, and the sway-bar links and bushings were replaced.

The 2+2 cabin features bucket seats upholstered in black leather with white piping. Interior appointments include a dash-mounted rearview mirror, a wood shift knob, a cabin heater, door-panel storage pockets, and a passenger-side grab handle. Front seatbelts were installed in 2025. The seats are worn. The carpeting is faded and should be replaced, according to the seller.

The banjo-style steering wheel frames Smiths white-dial instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, a fuel-level gauge, and a combination gauge displaying oil pressure and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 2k miles, approximately 300 of which were added by the seller. True mileage is unknown; accompanying documentation indicates that the odometer showed 32k miles in 2000. The speedometer was rebuilt in 2025 and its cable’s angle drive was replaced.

The 2.9-liter inline-six featured triple SU HS4 carburetors from the factory for a rating of 136 horsepower and 167 lb-ft of torque. Detailed in service records that are viewable in the gallery, the following work has been conducted since May 2024 by British Central Racing of Yakima, Washington:

  • Rebuilt carburetors
  • Re-cored radiator
  • Re-torqued cylinder head
  • Adjusted valves
  • Changed fluids

In addition, the following items were replaced during the same time frame:

  • Fan belt
  • Water pump
  • Thermostat
  • Cooling fan
  • Radiator cap
  • Radiator hoses
  • Air hoses
  • Fuel tank
  • Fuel cap
  • Ignition coil
  • Ignition points
  • Battery
  • Exhaust mounts

The oil was changed most recently in February 2026, at which time the distributor cap and plug wires were replaced.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with Laycock de Normanville electric overdrive. Since 2024, the transmission solenoid and overdrive electrics have been replaced and so have the clutch, clutch cylinders, clevis pin, and gearbox bushings. Corrosion is visible on underbody components.

The Austin-Healey Club of America issued the seller’s father a Certificate of Acknowledgement for Continuous Ownership of this car in December 2001. The application form viewable in the gallery chronicles the car’s history, as written by the seller’s father.

An assortment of 1960s paperwork for the 3000 is presented in the gallery along with manufacturer’s literature and recent service records.

A set of five removed wire wheels (four with tires) is included in the sale along with a luggage rack, a badge bar, smaller parts, and a jack.

The car’s chassis number is HBT7L17819, whereas the Washington title cites only the serialized latter portion of the sequence: 17819.

The Washington title also lists a comment of “Use Tax Waived—Gift”, records a Classic brand, and notes the odometer status as Exempt.
