24-Years-Owned 1962 Ford Thunderbird Convertible

This 1962 Ford Thunderbird is a red-on-black convertible that is equipped with a body-color Sports Roadster-style fiberglass tonneau cover, 14″ wire-spoke wheels, Thunderbird fender emblems, and a passenger-side grab bar. Power is provided by a 390ci V8 paired with a Cruise-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission. Additional equipment includes a white soft top, dual exhaust outlets, power steering, and dual side mirrors in addition to a power-adjustable driver’s seat, power windows, a swing-away steering column, and a MagicAire heater/defroster. Work performed since 2023 has involved rebuilding the four-barrel carburetor and replacing the door locks, fuel tank, thermostat, battery, generator, voltage regulator, and components for the braking and ignition systems. This Thunderbird is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with a clean California title in the owner’s name.

The car left the factory finished in Rangoon Red (J) and is believed to have been refinished at some point under prior ownership. A body-color Sports Roadster-style tonneau cover is fitted, and the seller reports that the power-retractable white soft top requires manual assistance to raise. Thunderbird emblems adorn the front fenders, and other details include chrome-finished bumpers, quad headlights, reverse lights, a windshield washer, dual side mirrors, and a dual exhaust system with outlets below the rear bumper.

Chrome-finished 14″ wire wheels wear spinner-style caps and were mounted with Hankook Kinergy ST tires in 2023. The power steering pump was also replaced in 2023 along with the front brake hoses and the wheel cylinders.

The front seats and rear bench are upholstered in black vinyl. Stainless steel trim accents the cabin, which is further equipped with a passenger-side grab bar, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, power windows, a MagicAire heater/defroster, and a center console. The door locks were replaced in 2023. Aftermarket speakers have been added to the door panels, though the stereo does not work.

The three-spoke steering wheel is mounted to a swing-away column and frames a 120-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and a combination gauge for fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 62k miles, approximately 7k of which were added under current ownership. The seller states that the mileage is not accurate, and total mileage is unknown.

The 390ci V8 is equipped with a four-barrel carburetor and Thunderbird-branded valve covers. Factory-rated output was 300 horsepower. Work performed since 2023 has involved rebuilding the carburetor, repairing a fuel leak, and replacing the freeze plugs, thermostat, battery, generator, voltage regulator, upper radiator hose, fuel tank, fuel sending unit, surge tank, belts, and ignition components.

Power is routed to the rear wheels via a Cruise-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission.

  • Trim 56 – Black Vinyl
  • Date 27J – September 27th
