1962 Studebaker Gran Turismo Hawk 4-Speed

This 1962 Studebaker Gran Turismo Hawk was acquired by the current owner on BaT in February 2024 and is powered by a 259ci V8 linked with a four-speed manual gearbox and a Twin Traction differential. The body was repainted black under previous ownership, and the cabin is upholstered in black vinyl with white inserts on the seats. An Edelbrock carburetor, an Evans intake manifold, an electronic ignition system, and air conditioning were installed in the early 2020s, and work under current ownership has involved rebuilding the starter, a tune-up, and replacing the steering box and motor mounts. This Gran Turismo Hawk is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with a factory production order, an owner’s manual, and a clean Oklahoma title in the owner’s name.

The Gran Turismo Hawk was designed by Brooks Stevens and debuted for the 1962 model year. This example was repainted black under previous ownership, and equipment includes chrome bumpers, a bulged hood, a driver-side mirror, and quarter vent windows. Close-up exterior photos are shown in the gallery.

Steel 15″ wheels wear chrome covers and are mounted with 205/75 Venezia Classic 787 whitewall tires, and a spare is stored in the trunk. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drum brakes, and the car is equipped with a hill-holder system. The brake fluid was changed and the shoes were adjusted under current ownership. The steering box was also replaced.

The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in black vinyl with white vinyl inserts along with a color-coordinated dashboard, door panels, and carpeting. Woodgrain and metal trim accents the dashboard, and equipment includes air conditioning, Studebaker-branded floor mats, a Studebaker push-button AM radio in the dash, and an Audiovox FM stereo mounted inside the locking glovebox. The shift knob is cracked.

The two-spoke vinyl-trimmed steering wheel frames a central 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock, and supplementary instrumentation for coolant temperature, amperage, fuel level, and oil pressure. The clock does not keep the correct time, and the tachometer does not work, according to the seller, who notes that a spare tachometer is included in the sale. The five-digit odometer shows 18k miles, approximately 2,500 of which have been added under current ownership; true mileage is unknown.

The 259ci V8 wears yellow valve covers and has been fitted with an Edelbrock carburetor, an Evans intake manifold, an electronic ignition system, and an aluminum radiator. Work under current ownership is said to have included rebuilding the starter, a tune-up, and replacing the fuel pump gaskets and the motor mounts.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox and a Twin Traction limited-slip differential. The dual exhaust system was replaced under previous ownership.
