1968 Ford Mustang Coupe California Special J-Code 302

This 1968 Ford Mustang California Special coupe was refurbished around 2016 and is powered by a J-code 302ci V8 paired with a C-4 three-speed automatic transmission. Finished in Wimbledon White over red vinyl upholstery, the car is equipped with the GT/CS Equipment Group, power steering, factory air conditioning, front bucket seats, a floor console, and a white vinyl roof. According to the seller, the restoration was completed by Dan at Colorado Mustangs using numerous original Ford components. The seller purchased the car in September 2024, and since that time 14″ styled-steel wheels, BFGoodrich radials, an aluminum radiator, and PerTronix ignition were installed. This Mustang California Special is now offered with a Deluxe Marti Report, a reproduction window sticker, the owner’s manual, spare parts, and a clean Minnesota title in the seller’s name.

The car was originally specified in Wimbledon White (M), and the GT/CS Equipment Package added fiberglass quarter-panel scoops and extensions, a fiberglass decklid spoiler, a fiberglass rear panel, Shelby-style taillights, rectangular fog lights, a hood with functional louvers and exposed locks, side and tail stripes, and a pop-open gas cap. The seller states that the car was restored around 2016 by Colorado Mustangs and notes that, while the exterior was refinished in its original Wimbledon White, the stripe color and interior were changed from the factory blue to the current red and a vinyl roof covering was added. During current ownership, reproduction Marchal floating fog lamps were installed, while the previously fitted Lucas pedestal lamps are included in the sale.

Since the seller acquired the car, the 14″ styled-steel wheels and 205/70R BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires were mounted. The car is equipped with power steering and four-wheel drum brakes.

Originally blue, the interior now features red upholstery and a cup holder mounted on the console. The AM radio and factory SelectAire air conditoning system have been retained, though the latter does not work properly.

Instrumentation consists of a 120-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and voltage. The five-digit odometer shows 60,796 miles, approximately 150 of which were added during current ownership. The seller states that total mileage is unknown, and the clock is inoperative.

The J-code 302ci V8 was factory rated at 230 horsepower. The seller installed PerTronix electronic ignition and an aluminum radiator, and the rear-main seal, starter, coolant hoses, and fluids were changed.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a C-4 three-speed automatic transmission.

The sale includes a Deluxe Marti Report, a reproduction window sticker, the owner’s manual, a Mustang California Special history book, brochures, a new dash pad, the original radio, a RetroSound AM/FM Bluetooth radio in the box, a spare tire, the original Lucas fog lamps, an extra set of GT styled wheels, and assorted spare parts.

The title lists the odometer reading as “N/REQ”.
