1970 Jaguar XKE Series II Coupe

This 1970 Jaguar XKE Series II coupe underwent a refurbishment in the 1980s that included a rebuild of the 4.2-liter inline-six, installation of triple SU carburetors, and a repaint of its Light Blue finish. The car is equipped with 15″ wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, a four-speed manual transmission, and a limited-slip differential, while the black leather cockpit features a wood-rimmed steering wheel and air conditioning. It was acquired by the current owner in 2022, and work since has included the installation of a stainless-steel exhaust system, wiring repairs, servicing the air conditioning system, and replacing the front brakes and clutch slave and master cylinders. This XKE coupe is offered by the seller, a BaT Local Partner, on behalf of its fifth and current owner with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, the owner’s manual and folio, a file of documentation dating from new, removed factory parts, and a Wisconsin title in the current owner’s name.

Styling changes introduced with the Series II included a larger grille opening, a one-piece wraparound rear bumper, and front turn signals and taillights positioned below the bumpers. This example left the factory in Light Blue and was repainted in the 1980s. Exterior equipment includes sealed-beam open headlights, a driver-side mirror, and a louvered clamshell hood.

Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels are secured by three-eared knock-offs and are mounted with Uniroyal Tiger Paw Touring A/S tires. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The wheel seals and front brake pads, rotors, and calipers were replaced in May 2024, at which point the wheel bearings were repacked, while the brake master cylinder and servo were replaced in June 2026.

The cockpit is trimmed in black leather and features bucket seats, air conditioning, and an AM/FM cassette stereo. The air conditioning system was test and recharged with R12 refrigerant in August 2026, at which time the compressor was rebuilt. The stereo was also repaired in preparation for the sale. The horn and clock are inoperable.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation comprising a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline as well as an analog clock and gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 63k miles, approximately 2k of which were added under current ownership.

The 4.2-liter inline-six underwent a rebuild in the 1980s that included the installation of triple SU carburetors. In August 2021, the radiator, ignition points, condenser, spark plugs and wires, and distributor cap and rotor were replaced, and the carburetors were rebuilt. Wiring repairs were performed in May 2024, and the V-belts were replaced in February 2025, at which point a stainless-steel exhaust system was installed. The exhaust manifold was fitted with replacement gaskets in June 2026, and the battery was replaced in August the same year.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The clutch master and slave cylinders were replaced in May 2024.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace Certificate shows drivetrain numbers, colors, and a dispatch date of February 11, 1970. The sale includes a file of historical and service records dating from new, the factory owner’s manual and folio, and the factory knock-off tool, hammer, and tire jack. The removed factory intake manifold, dual Stromberg carburetors, and finned aluminum cam covers also will accompany the car.

The Wisconsin title notes “Exempt” under the Odometer Status heading.
