Marvel’s Wolverine Lets You Have Full Control Over Slow-Motion Options for Cinematic Gameplay

Marvel’s Wolverine has an option that lets you control the speed of the game, allowing for hyper-cinematic slow-motion action.

Insomniac Games has created an expansive accessibility menu for Marvel’s Wolverine, and in it, there’s an option to control game speed. You can map this to any button you want on your controller, allowing you to toggle between normal speed and whatever secondary speed you want. One player chose to map this to their D-pad, allowing them to slow the game down to 30%, creating a slow-motion effect. This allows you to have more control over how the action is presented in the game and create more cinematic moments, letting a splash of blood slowly wash across the screen or have Wolverine drill his claws into an enemy before ramping the speed back up.

It’s very Zack Snyder-y, as the ex-DC director is well-known for his slow-motion action shots that indulge in violence. Insomniac’s last superhero game, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, also included this option. It allowed fans to capture beautiful web-swinging gameplay where time can briefly slow to highlight a graceful animation or a gorgeous shot. It’s certainly a great way for creators to have full control over their gameplay for unique footage.

Marvel’s Wolverine is officially out now after an extensive five-year wait. IGN gave the game a 6/10 in its review, noting that the game has strong bones, but lacks enough variety to sustain itself.

“Marvel’s Wolverine’s slick and satisfying combat wears thin well before its conclusion, so much so that even its strong character work can’t quite save it from being anything more than okay,” we said.

Insomniac Games has noted that it is listening to feedback from players in an effort to keep refining the experience and making it better after launch. Wolverine actor Liam McIntyre has managed to shrug off some of the harsh comments thrown at the game, stating that he’s experienced backlash before and is proud of the game that the team made.
