This 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 10th Anniversary Edition was acquired by the seller, a US Army Special Operations veteran, in 2018. The seller tells us that he and his best friend in Special Operations made commitments to each other to each purchase and build Firebirds together when they returned home from overseas. The seller’s friend passed in the line of duty in 2004, and the seller returned home disabled from combat injuries. This project took the seller eight years to complete, and work consisted of repainting the body in gray, re-trimming the cabin in silver vinyl upholstery, and installing a custom audio system, an American Autowire harness, subframe connectors, tubular front suspension components, CalTracs traction bars, four wheel disc brakes, and 18″ Ridler wheels. Power is provided by a 403ci V8 linked with a three-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential and additional equipment includes a shaker-style hood, removable roof panels, a Speedhut GPS speedometer, a revised camshaft, long-tube exhaust headers, and an Edelbrock carburetor, intake manifold, and aluminum cylinder heads. This modified Firebird Trans Am is now offered with the manufacturer’s literature, PHS documents, and an Arkansas title in the seller’s name.

All 10th Anniversary Edition examples were finished in Platinum, and this example was repainted during the refurbishment. Exterior details include Firebird hood graphics on the shaker hood as well as a front spoiler, removable t-top roof panels, a rear spoiler, and painted mirror caps. The rubber seals and weather stripping were replaced during the refurbishment. The seller notes that the rear defroster wiring is not connected.

The 18″ Ridler wheels are mounted with Hercules Raptis WR1 tires. All 10th Anniversary Edition examples were equipped with the WS6 Special Performance Package, and the car was modified with subframe connectors, aftermarket leaf springs, tubular front suspension components, CalTracs traction bars, and revised sway bars. Braking is handled by power-assisted drilled and slotted discs. The parking brake is not connected.

The seating surfaces were re-trimmed in silver vinyl upholstery during the refurbishment, which extends to the door panels. Amenities include an engine-turned dash fascia, a full-length center console, an American Autowire wiring harness, and power windows and door locks. The horn and air conditioning are not wired up and will require completion.

The custom audio system features a graphic equalizer and Skar Audio speakers, amplifiers, and rear-mounted subwoofers.

The Formula steering wheel fronts a 160-mph Speedhut GPS speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock, and a fuel-level gauge. The digital odometer shows 86 miles, which represent mileage since the build was completed.

The 403ci V8 features a revised camshaft, long-tube exhaust headers, and an Edelbrock carburetor, intake manifold, and aluminum cylinder heads. Cooling is handled by an aluminum radiator with dual electric cooling fans.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission and a Safe-T-Track limited-slip differential. The transmission leaks fluid when sitting for periods of time. The factory catalyst has been removed and a dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers is installed.

The Arkansas title carries an “OD Exempt” remark.
