This 1965 Ford Mustang started life as a convertible, and following the seller’s purchase on BaT in June 2020 it became the subject of a GT350-style, open-roof roadster build carried out by OVC Mustangs in Huntington Beach, California. Power comes from a 331ci stroker V8 with high-compression pistons, a roller camshaft, and aluminum heads, and it is linked to a Toploader four-speed manual transmission and a 9” rear end. Peter Brock designed the bespoke R-style front valance, while Camilo Pardo developed the fiberglass tonneau and center console. Other highlights include a honeycomb grille, Torq Thrust-style wheels, Koni shocks, and power steering. Since the build was completed in 2022, the car has been featured in an episode of Jay Leno’s Garage and has earned numerous awards, including the People’s Choice award at the 2022 Team Shelby Bash and First Place at the 2024 Designed to Win car show in Pasadena. This custom Mustang is now offered with a California title in the name of the seller’s business.

An R-style front valance designed by Peter Brock was installed before the car was repainted in Wimbledon White with blue stripes. Other details include a honeycomb grille, a hood scoop, exposed hood pins, round side mirrors, and custom “Roadster” badging.

Camilo Pardo, designer of the Ford GT, developed the shape of the fiberglass tonneau cover, which features integrated headrest fairings and push-button latches. The soft top assembly was removed during the build. Imperfections are noted around the car.

Torq Thrust-style wheels are wrapped in Goodyear white-letter tires. The seller states that the front suspension has been reinforced, and Koni shocks have been installed at all four corners along with adjustable front strut rods. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is handled by front discs and rear drums.

The cabin is trimmed in cream vinyl, and the headrests are accented with blue GT350 embroidery. The center console was also designed by Camilo Pardo, and the rear seats have been removed.

The three-spoke steering wheel wears a GT350-branded center cap and frames a 120-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 65k miles.

The 289ci cast-iron V8 engine block was overbored, and a stroker crankshaft was installed along with 10.4:1 compression-ratio pistons, a roller camshaft, aluminum heads, and a Moroso T-sump oil pan. Displacement is calculated at 331ci, and the seller reports that output was measured at 460 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque using 91-octane fuel. The aluminum radiator is cooled by an electric fan.

The Toploader four-speed manual transmission was rebuilt prior to installation, and it sends power to the rear wheels through a 9” rear end with 3.51:1 gearing.
