This 1981 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is one of 2,000 Daytona Pace Car Edition examples produced for the model year. It was modified during prior ownership with a repaint in red, fitting black carpeting inside, and installation of a 400ci V8 equipped with an aftermarket camshaft, an Edelbrock intake and valve covers, a Holley carburetor, and long-tube exhaust headers linked to a dual exhaust system. The car is also equipped with a three-speed automatic transmission, a Positraction differential, T-top removable roof panels, the WS6 Special Performance Package, 15″ alloy wheels, Recaro front seats, and a Bluetooth-capable Sony CD stereo. Acquired by the current owner on BaT in October 2022, this modified Trans Am is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with spare parts, partial service records, a clean Carfax report, and a Rhode Island registration.

The car was repainted in its current shade of red under previous ownership. Features include T-top roof panels, a cowl-induction hood, a phoenix hood decal, tinted windows, a blackout taillight panel, chrome side-splitter tailpipe extensions, and front and rear spoilers. The front grille inserts were replaced under prior ownership. There is bubbling paint on the right-rear quarter panel, lower doors, and lower front fenders along with scratches and rock chips on the body, and the replacement power antenna functions intermittently.

Alloy 15″ wheels wear Firebird-logo center caps and are mounted with 245/60 Cooper Cobra Radial G/T tires that require replacement due to age. The car was equipped from the factory with the WS6 Special Performance Package, which added power-assisted front and rear disc brakes as well as Special Handling Package suspension. Work under prior ownership included replacing the steering box, idler arm, center link, right-side inner and outer tie rods, parking brake cables, two shock absorbers, and front sway bushings along with rear calipers, brake pads, and rotors. The control arm bushings require replacement.

The cabin features Recaro front bucket seats trimmed in black velour with red inserts, color-coordinated door panels, and a black dashboard topped with a cap. Equipment includes power windows and a Bluetooth-capable Sony CD stereo, and replacement door lock poppers have been fitted. Work under prior ownership consisted of installing black carpets, rebuilding the ventilation controls and replacing the blower motor, heater core, and front speakers. The cruise control and turn signal cancel function do not work, and the air conditioning system components have been removed.

The three-spoke steering wheel fronts an 85-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, battery voltage, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 80k miles, approximately 200 of which have been added by the seller. The instrument cluster was refurbished and the tachometer circuit board was replaced under prior ownership.

The 400ci V8 sourced from an earlier model was rebuilt and installed approximately 10 years ago according to the prior owner, who states that modifications include an aftermarket camshaft, an Edelbrock intake, a Holley carburetor, a Powermaster gear-reduction starter, and long-tube headers paired with a dual exhaust system. The spark plugs, wires, coil, coolant hoses, and brake fluid were changed under prior ownership along with installation of an Edelbrock open-element air cleaner assembly.

The three-speed automatic transmission and rear end were rebuilt under prior ownership, the driveshaft was balanced, and a Yukon Gear Duragrip positraction carrier was installed along with a 3.08:1 ring-and-pinion set.
