Twin-Plug 3.4L-Powered 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe M491 at No Reserve

This 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera coupe was optioned with the M491 “Turbo Look” package, which added front and rear spoilers as well as wider rear bodywork. The flat-six was overhauled under prior ownership by Midwest Eurosport of Bensenville, Illinois, which included adding twin-plug cylinder heads and increasing its displacement to 3.4-liters along with re-gearing the 915 five-speed manual transaxle and installing replacement synchros. Remote-reservoir JRZ double-adjustable coilovers and an SRP adjustable rear sway bar are fitted along with an aftermarket front spoiler, 18″ Forgeline wheels, brake cooling ducts, Recaro front seats, a Wevo shifter, a welded-in roll bar, RS-style door panels, and a 930S-style steering wheel. Acquired by the seller on BaT in June 2025 and later offered by them in April 2026, this Carrera coupe is now offered again at no reserve with manufacturer’s literature and a clean New Mexico title in the seller’s name.

The M491 option was first introduced in 1984 and features front and rear spoilers from the contemporary 911 Turbo as well as wider front and rear fenders. This example is finished in Guards Red and was repainted in 2009. An aftermarket front spoiler, rear quarter panel vents, and a replacement windshield were installed at that time, and the weatherstripping was replaced, including the sunroof seals. The hood struts were replaced in February 2025. Paint meter readings are provided in the gallery below.

Forgeline 18″ wheels measure 10″ in width up front and 11.5″ wide out back, and they were mounted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires in February 2025, at which time the brake fluid was changed and the front and rear pads and rotors were replaced. Custom front and rear brake cooling ducts have been added, and suspension modifications include the following components:

  • JRZ adjustable shocks with remote reservoirs
  • Tarett Engineering front strut brace
  • Elephant Racing adjustable rear trailing arms
  • Smart Racing Products adjustable rear sway bar & welded rear reinforcements
  • Spherical-joint front tie rod ends
  • Polyurethane control arm bushings

The Recaro bucket seats are trimmed in black leather with red stitching and equipped with Sabelt harnesses. A welded-in roll bar has also been added in addition to RS-style door panels, a Wevo shifter, an Alpine head unit, and a fire extinguisher. The rear seats have been removed.

The leather-wrapped 930S-style steering wheel fronts VDO instrumentation consisting of a RUF-branded 8k-rpm tachometer as well as a 170-mph speedometer, a Quarz clock, and gauges for oil level, oil pressure, oil temperature, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 37k miles, approximately 300 of which were added under current ownership.

The flat-six was overhauled, increased in displacement to 3.4-liters, and fitted with twin-plug cylinder heads under prior ownership. A 964 C4 DME and wiring harness have reportedly been added, and a front-mounted oil cooler is fitted along with a custom dual-outlet exhaust system.

The Type 915 five-speed manual transaxle was re-geared and fitted with replacement synchros and dog teeth in 2010. The car came equipped from the factory with an optional limited-slip differential.

The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage from an initial entry in 2002.
