1966 Pontiac GTO Convertible

This 1966 Pontiac GTO convertible was initially delivered to the Odessa Motor Company in Texas finished in Montero Red with an Ivory White convertible top. It was optioned with power windows, air conditioning, power steering, and a two-speed automatic transmission, and work circa 2022 included servicing the transmission and completing a valve job on the 389ci V8. Further equipment includes MagnaFlow mufflers, 14″ Rally I wheels, a center console, power-assisted drum brakes, and woodgrain cabin trim. Acquired by the current owner in 2007, this GTO convertible is now offered by the seller on their behalf with a reproduction window sticker and a clean California title in the owner’s name.

The car left the factory finished in Montero Red (R) with an Ivory White convertible top, and the seller states that the car retains its factory finish. Details include stacked headlights, a simulated hood scoop, and chrome trim on the grille, bumpers, window surrounds, and rocker panels.

Painted 14″ Rally I wheels feature polished trim rings and are mounted with BFGoodrich Radial T/A white-letter tires. A full-size spare with a redline tire is found in the trunk. The car is equipped with power steering and a stabilizer bar, and braking is handled by power-assisted drums at all four corners. The power steering pump and brake master cylinder were replaced in 2013.

The front bucket seats and rear bench are upholstered in Parchment vinyl, and interior appointments include woodgrain trim, a full-length center console, power windows, air conditioning, and a locking glovebox. The radio and power adjustment for the driver’s seat do not work.

The two-spoke steering wheel fronts a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 34k miles, approximately 2k of which were added under current ownership.

The 389ci V8 was factory equipped with a four-barrel carburetor and was rated at 335 horsepower and 431 lb-ft of torque. The engine was removed circa 2022, after which the piston rings were replaced, and a valve job was completed, per the seller. Records in the gallery indicate an engine overhaul was completed in 2009.

The engine stamp is displayed above.

The seller tells us the two-speed automatic transmission was serviced in preparation for the sale. The dual exhaust system has MagnaFlow mufflers.
