1976 GMC Birchaven 23’ Motorhome at No Reserve

This 1976 GMC is a 23′ motorhome that features a Birchaven floor plan with a galley, a convertible dinette and sofa, and a bathroom with a shower. Its interior has been updated with replacement front captain’s chairs trimmed in gray leather along with a bar, a Suburban oven/cooktop, a flat-screen TV with a sound bar, vinyl flooring, an aftermarket head unit, and a rearview camera mirror. Power is provided by an Oldsmobile 455ci V8 fitted with Doug Thorley headers and linked to a three-speed automatic transaxle, and the vehicle rides on quad rear airbags and 16″ Alcoa wheels over disc brakes. The exterior has fiberglass and aluminum bodywork finished in white with multi-color stripes in addition to LED lighting, an awning, a shower, and a rear ladder. An Onan generator, a water heater, and a roof-mounted air conditioning unit and solar panel are additional elements. Acquired by the seller in 2019, the vehicle was later placed into a reported period of long-term storage. This GMC motorhome is now offered at no reserve with service records and a Washington title in the seller’s name.

Initially offered in two lengths, the GMC Motorhome was produced from 1973 through 1978 with a low, front-wheel-drive chassis. This 23′ example is said to have been repainted under previous ownership, and the white finish on its fiberglass and aluminum bodywork is complemented by blue, gray, and red stripes in addition to compass rose side graphics and Toronado badging. Aftermarket lighting additions include LED headlights, grille parking/turn signals, driving lights, yellow fog lamps, clearance lights, and secondary brake lights. The vehicle also has a roof-mounted air conditioning unit, an exterior shower, chrome-finished front and rear bumpers, a rear-mounted spare wheel, and a rear ladder. A DISH satellite TV antenna is installed, though it requires a subscription for use. Some of the gallery photos were taken in 2025.

The Birchaven living quarters offer a convertible dinette and sofa with replacement patterned blue upholstery, and the entertainment system features a flat-screen TV with a sound bar. The galley provides a replacement faucet and sink with a cutting board as well as a Dometic refrigerator, a Suburban oven with a three-burner cooktop, spice and knife racks, and a backsplash. Additional elements include multi-color ambient lighting, replacement vinyl flooring, overhead cabinetry, roof vents, a fire extinguisher, and a digital wall clock with a thermometer and a weather forecast display.

A bar with a wine bottle opener and under-cabinet lighting has been added along with a Hamilton Beach toaster oven and microwave. Additional storage is located below.

The rear bathroom has been altered with a blue vessel sink, a wood slab, and a pebble-style countertop. It also has a toilet, power outlets, and a combination shower and bathtub with a curtain and wall tiles.

Replacement captain’s chairs are upholstered in gray leather, and the front cabin is also outfitted with window shades and a console with cupholders, a USB outlet, and a laser star-pattern projector. A windshield-mounted display, an aftermarket head unit, and a siren/PA system have also been added. The chassis air conditioning and cruise control systems are inoperative.

A two-spoke steering wheel wears a cover and sits ahead of a 120-mph speedometer, an aftermarket tachometer, and readouts for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature as well as a Digi-Panel with auxiliary gauges. A marine compass is affixed to the dashboard, and a rearview camera mirror and dual fans are mounted overhead. The five-digit odometer shows 76k miles, approximately 9k of which were added under current ownership. Cracks are visible in the dashboard.

The rear tandem-wheel setup has been fitted with quad airbags and disc brakes. Aluminum 16″ Alcoa wheels are mounted with Firestone tires, and the vehicle also has a torsion bar front suspension and power steering. The brake master cylinder was replaced and the brake lines were flushed in September 2026.

The electrical system features a 4,000-watt Onan generator, a pure sine-wave inverter, a battery converter/charger, and a solar panel linked to lithium-ion batteries. Propane fuels the water heater and furnace. The seller reports a trickle charger is connected to the chassis batteries. The tank level monitor is not connected to the fresh water tank, and corrosion on the propane tank and brake master cylinder is noted.

The 455ci Rocket V8 has been modified with an auxiliary electric fuel pump and Doug Thorley headers linked to an aftermarket exhaust system.

Power is sent to the front wheels through a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transaxle with an oil cooler. Corrosion is present on various engine and underside components, including the crossmember. A 2021 invoice shown in the gallery notes fluid leaks.

Magazines, manufacturer’s literature, and service records will accompany the motorhome along with an outdoor rug.
