55-Years-Family-Owned 1964 Rupp Grandprix Go-Kart at No Reserve

This 1964 Rupp Grand Prix go-kart was purchased by the seller’s father in 1971 and is powered by a McCulloch MC91 single-cylinder engine linked to a centrifugal Horstman clutch and drive chain. Refinished in metallic blue, it features a three-spoke steering wheel, a padded seat, an aluminum floor pan, a Chilton seat-back fuel tank, a rear-mounted disc brake, staggered-diameter turbine wheels, a reed-valve intake, a flat-back carburetor, a GEM box muffler, and an engine mount with rubber bushings. This Grand Prix is now offered without reserve in Willoughby, Ohio, with a removed Hurst Airheart brake master cylinder and a bill of sale.

The chromoly tubular frame was previously finished in orange and was refinished by the seller in metallic blue during the past year. White pinstripes and the number 61 have been added to the Nassau panel, which also features a manufacturer’s plate labeled “Grand Prix” and an engine cut-off switch. Additional features include a polished aluminum floor pan and a central support bar on the rear section of the frame.

The staggered-diameter 4″ and 5″ turbine wheels wear older Carlisle and Eliminator tires, which are cracked and require replacement. Stopping power is provided by a replacement rear-mounted disc brake. A removed Hurst Airheart brake master cylinder is included. Rust is visible on the wheels.

The three-spoke steering wheel has a black grip and fronts a single seat upholstered in black with white piping and Dart Kart branding. A chrome Chilton five-quart fuel tank is mounted behind the seat.

The 6.05ci McCulloch MC-91 two-stroke single was reportedly rebuilt under current ownership and delivers power to the rear axle through a rebuilt Horstman centrifugal clutch and chain drive. Additional equipment includes a pull-starter, a rebuilt flat-back carburetor, a reed-valve intake, and a GEM box-style muffler. The ignition points and condenser have been replaced.

The above photo was captured circa 1974.
