S/T-Style, 3.5L-Powered 1972 Porsche 911T Coupe 5-Speed

This 1972 Porsche 911T coupe was modified in the style of a 911 S/T as part of a build completed in 2024 by the selling dealer, Makellos Classics of Escondido, California. Work involved a repaint in Smyrna Green as well as the installation of steel fender flares and S/T-style bumpers. Power is supplied by a replacement flat-six that was increased in displacement to 3.5-liters and fitted with Dougherty DC60 camshafts, Mahle 98mm pistons and cylinders, and Rothsport Racing individual-throttle-body fuel injection with MoTeC engine management. Shifting is via a Type 915 five-speed manual transaxle with a Quaife limited-slip differential, and the car rides on 15″ Minilite wheels with Bilstein coilovers, Tarett Engineering sway bars, and a bump steer kit. Inside, sport seats trimmed in brown leather with leather-woven striped inserts are accompanied by a Classic Retrofit electric air conditioning system, a PCCM stereo, and a Rennshift 915 aluminum shifter with a wooden knob. This modified 911T is now offered with build photos and a clean California title.

Steel fender flares were added along with aluminum ST-style front and rear bumpers, and the car was repainted in Smyrna Green during the build. A center-fill fuel cutout is located on the hood, while an oil filler is situated along the right-rear quarter panel. Further exterior modifications include 9Eleven LED headlights, driving lamps, Euro-style taillights, black rear bumperettes, and 911 ST and 3.5 badging. The studio shots were taken approximately 2,300 miles ago in 2025.

Silver-finished 15″ Minilite wheels are mounted with staggered Michelin TB15 tires. Braking is via black Porsche-branded monoblock calipers over cross-drilled and ventilated rotors with a dual-circuit master cylinder. Suspension modifications include the following components:

  • Bilstein RSR coilovers
  • Tarett Engineering RSR front and rear sway bars
  • Tarett Engineering adjustable bump steer kit
  • Carrera 3.2 front control arms
  • Elephant Racing 935-style spring plates
  • Reinforced shock towers and sway bar mounts
  • Polygraphite bushings
  • Aluminum swing arms

The cabin houses a pair of sport seats trimmed in brown leather with leather-weave striped inserts that extend to the lower dash and door panels. The rear seats have been removed, while a Classic Retrofit electric air conditioning system was added along with a Porsche Classic Communications Management stereo, USB outlets, and a Rennshift 915 aluminum shifter with a wooden knob.

The ST-style four-spoke steering wheel is wrapped in leather and fronts VDO instrumentation including a central 10k-rpm tachometer with a green Makellos-branded dial along with 150-mph speedometer, a clock, and auxiliary gauges. The six-digit odometer was reset at the time of the build and shows 3,600 miles.

The front trunk houses a 100-liter fuel tank and an adjustable strut brace.

The 3.2-liter flat-six was rebuilt and bored to 3.5-liters. It features Rothsport Racing 48mm individual throttle bodies topped with a 996 GT3 intake and controlled via a MoTeC M130 ECU. Additional build highlights include the following components:

  • 964 crankshaft
  • Dougherty DC60 camshafts
  • CP-Carrillo connecting rods
  • Mahle 98mm pistons and cylinders
  • 996 GT3 bearings and oil pump
  • 993 threaded cylinder head studs
  • Aasco valve springs
  • Elephant Racing oil cooler and lines
  • RyWire mil-spec engine harness
  • Kroon wiring harness

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Type 915 five-speed manual transaxle with a Quaife limited-slip differential. The exhaust system incorporates Bursch stainless-steel headers and an M&K 911R stainless-steel sport muffler.
