This 1978 Kawasaki Z1-R TC was modified with an American Turbo Pak, Inc. (ATP) turbocharger kit by Turbo Cycle (TC) Corporation of Irvine, California, prior to initial delivery and was sold new in Morland, Kansas. It is powered by a 1,015cc DOHC inline-four equipped with a Rajay-sourced turbocharger and is finished in a black, red, orange, and yellow “Molly” paint scheme. Equipment includes a quarter-fairing and rear cowl, a tinted windscreen, a two-up ducktail seat, triple disc brakes, 18″ cast alloy wheels, a five-speed transmission, and an electric starter. This Z1-R TC was purchased by the seller in 2025 and is now offered with a back-up kick-starter, a tool kit, a Kawasaki tire gauge, removed parts, and a clean Kansas title in the seller’s name.

A total of 500 Z1-R TCs were produced during 1978 and 1979, and the second batch of 250, of which this is one, were finished in black with a red, orange, and yellow graphics package designed by custom painter Rollin “Molly” Sanders. The 3.4-gallon fuel tank was repainted and sealed under previous ownership, and additional equipment includes a quarter-fairing with a tinted windscreen and a two-up ducktail seat with a grab strap as well as a rear cowl, a lift-assist handle, folding passenger foot pegs, and a side stand.

Seven-spoke 18″ cast aluminum wheels are finished in black with machined edges and mounted with Bridgestone Spitfire S11 tires. Suspension is handled by a 36mm telescopic fork as well as a pair of preload-adjustable shocks mounted to the swingarm. Braking is provided by triple discs.

The chrome-finished handlebar is equipped with dual mirrors and secured by a four-bolt riser with a top clamp that integrates the mount for a boost gauge. Additional instrumentation consists of a Nippon Denso 160-mph speedometer and matching tachometer with an 8,500-rpm redline. The five-digit odometer shows 6k miles, 85 of which were ridden by the seller.

The 1,015cc DOHC inline-four was rated at 130 horsepower when new. It is equipped with a 38mm Zenith-Bendix carburetor, an aftermarket electric fuel pump, and a chrome four-into-one “spider” headpipe assembly that feeds a Rajay Industries turbocharger wearing an unrestricted tailpipe with a black-finished ribbed heat shield and a slash-cut tip. The seller says the engine would benefit from cleaning the carburetor and adjusting the turbocharger and fuel flow.

The engine is equipped with an electric starter, and a detachable back-up kick-start lever is stored beneath the seat. The bike is also accompanied by a tool kit, a Kawasaki air-pressure gauge, and removed parts including a fuel pump, fuel gauge, and fuel lines.

Power is transferred to the rear wheel through a five-speed gearbox and a drive chain.
The Kansas title carries an “ANTIQUE” brand.
