Supercharged 408-Powered 1966 Ford Mustang Fastback Track Car

This 1966 Ford Mustang fastback underwent a 10-year build that included the installation of a stroker 408ci Windsor V8, a Paxton Novi 2200 centrifugal supercharger, and a Tremec T-56 Magnum six-speed manual transmission. Supporting modifications include upgraded fueling and cooling components along with staggered-diameter 15″ Torq Thrust wheels, TCP power rack-and-pinion steering, Koni adjustable front shocks, and Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes. The car is finished in red, and it features LED headlights, a teardrop hood, an R-style valance, Lexan and polycarbonate windows, and an adjustable rear wing. Inside, the cockpit features a 10-point welded roll cage as well as Kirkey aluminum seats with Simpson Racing five-point harnesses, a GT350R-style dash panel, a Hurst shifter, a MOMO steering wheel on a quick-release hub, and AutoMeter instrumentation. This modified Ford Mustang was purchased by the selling dealer in 2026, and it is now offered in Portland, Oregon, with build records and a Washington State title.

The bodywork was refinished in PPG Deltron Guards Red with urethane clearcoat during the build. The car features LED headlights, a teardrop hood scoop, carbon-fiber mirror caps, a flip-up fuel filter, and an adjustable rear wing. Additional highlights include the following:

  • Mustangs to Fear 1965-66 upper nose panel
  • Cobra Automotive R-style front valance
  • Integrated headlight buckets and trim rings
  • Billet hood hinges
  • Pro Glass 3/16-inch Lexan windshield
  • Black-out windshield border
  • Racing-style door hinges
  • Satin-finish outer door handles
  • Polycarbonate/Lexan quarter-window components
  • Cobra Automotive R-model rear plexiglas window

The car is equipped with Total Control Products (TCP) rack-and-pinion steering and a KRC power steering pump. Up front, suspension incorporates TCP upper control arms, boxed lower control arms, a TCP bump-steer kit, Koni adjustable front shocks, 620-lb coil springs, and billet sway bar mounts for the 1″ bar along with a straight Monte Carlo bar. Leaf springs are retained out back, and the ride height has been lowered by 1″.

The 15″ Torq Thrust-style wheels feature polished rims, and they are mounted over APR studs with 225/60 BFGoodrich Radial T/A front and 295/50 Mikey Thompson rear Sportsman S/T tires. The four-wheel disc brake system incorporates Wilwood Dynalite components with tandem master cylinders, Mustang II-style heavy-duty front components, and a cabin-mounted front/rear bias controller.

The cockpit features a welded 10-point roll cage as well as a pair of black cloth-trimmed Kirkey aluminum seats with Simpson Racing five-point harnesses. Additional equipment includes a GT350R-style dash panel, black door panels with strap-style pulls, adjustable seat mounts, and a Hurst shifter with a six-speed-pattern knob and a reverse gear lockout.

The MOMO MOD 07 steering wheel is mounted on a quick-release hub ahead of AutoMeter instrumentation, including a 140-mph GPS speedometer, a 10k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The digital odometer shows 466 miles since the completion of the build, and the seller believes it has been on track once.

The Windsor V8 stroked to 408ci during the build, and it features the following:

  • 4″-stroke SCAT crankshaft

The engine is topped with a Paxton Novi 2200 centrifugal supercharger as well as a Vortech Mondo bypass valve and a 10-rib drive system. Cooling is provided by an aluminum radiator, an electric pusher fan, and a Fluidyne oil cooler. The electrical system incorporates a Haltech Elite 2500 ECU and wiring harness.

English Racing performed dynamometer tuning in 2022, with a peak recorded output of 486.95 horsepower and 589.90 lb-ft of torque.

A Tremec T-56 Magnum six-speed manual transmission was installed with American Powertrain ProFit components along with a scattershield, a McLeod flywheel and clutch, and a Driveline Express Division driveshaft. Additional equipment includes a polyurethane transmission isolator, a heavy-duty pilot bearing, replacement rear-axle ring-and-pinion gears, and a driveshaft safety loop.

A FuelSafe fuel cell is mounted in the rear cargo area, and the fuel system features Aeromotive pumps, fittings, and components.
