Modified, 400-Powered 1967 Pontiac Firebird Coupe

This 1967 Pontiac Firebird coupe was refurbished in 2013 with work that included a repaint in Viper GTS Blue Pearl and the installation of a 400ci V8 and a Tremec five-speed manual transmission. The Camaro-sourced 12-bolt rear end has a limited-slip differential and 3.73:1 gears, and other details include 17″ Billet Specialties wheels, power-assisted front disc brakes, lowering springs, power steering, a center console, and a Hurst shifter. The cabin was also reupholstered in Parchment vinyl during the refurbishment. Acquired by the current owner in 2011, this Firebird coupe is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with service records and a clean Illinois title in the owner’s name.

Finished from the factory in Mayfair Maize (Y), the body was refinished in its current shade of “Viper GTS Blue Pearl” in December 2012. The glass, front and rear chrome bumpers, floor pans, and trunk pans were replaced as part of the refurbishment. Exterior details include quad round headlights, front vent windows, and simulated rear quarter-panel louvers. The wipers have been removed, and a paint bubble on the roof is displayed in the gallery.

Billet Specialties 17″ wheels are mounted with BFGoodrich g-Force Super Sport A/S tires. The car is equipped with power steering, and the suspension has been lowered utilizing Hotchkis coil springs and Eaton Detroit leaf springs. Braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums, and the system features a chrome brake booster and dual-reservoir master cylinder. Work in 2013 included replacing the tie rods, tie rod adjusters, ball joints, and lower control arm bushings.

The front bucket seats and rear bench are upholstered in Parchment vinyl and are joined by a contrasting black dashboard, center console, and carpets. A Painless wiring harness was utilized during the refurbishment, and cabin appointments include a heater, a Hurst shifter, and lap belts. A burn hole on the driver’s seat is noted in the seller’s walk-through video below.

The three-spoke steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer and a fuel-level gauge, while an aftermarket tachometer is found ahead of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 5k miles. Total mileage is unknown.

The replacement 400ci V8 was installed during the 2013 refurbishment. It breathes through an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, an aluminum intake manifold, and finned polished valve covers as well as a cowl-mounted MSD ignition control box, an aluminum radiator, a high-torque mini-starter, and braided stainless-steel fuel lines. An alternator relocation kit was installed in 2013, and the engine mounts, rear main seal, and oil pan gasket were replaced in 2015.

The seller tells us the Tremec five-speed manual transmission is linked with a rebuilt 12-bolt rear end reportedly sourced from a Camaro and fitted with a limited-slip differential and 3.73:1 gearing. A street clutch kit, and the shifter and linkage were replaced in 2013. The driveshaft was shortened to 46.5″ in 2020, at which time a replacement transmission yoke and U-joints were fitted. Long-tube headers are linked to a custom exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers.
