6-year-old decides to gift a kitten his family is fostering to his martial arts teacher, but when the teacher comes to meet her, the kitten’s mom marches over too and makes it clear they’re a package deal

The only right thing to do when a cat chooses its human is to let that cat go to them.

Fostering a cat is a beautiful thing. Sure, not everyone can do it. Some people – like basically all the writers at ICHC – have a bad habit of wanting to adopt every single cat that we see, and so fostering and getting attached to a cat that we are not supposed to keep is a bit problematic. But the people who do it are angels. Giving a cat a home until they are able to get one furrever instead of having them stay at a shelter or, god forbid, have them thrown back outside, is everything. Teaching these cats that humans can be kind, can be gentle, can be loving. Some of these foster cats come from the streets, and it takes a long time to gain their trust. But it’s worth it. Once they learn that humans are not that bad, they can finally go home with one and live the spoiled and happy life that they actually deserve.

The family in today’s story was doing that for two cats – a momma cat and her kitten. And of course they got attached. It was unavoidable. Not only was this mother and daughter due two of the cutest cats in the world, but there was also a six-year-old in the family. Now, as you can imagine, if we, at our age, still get attached to basically every cat we interact with, for a child to live with one for a while would be life-changing.

This family had no doubts that they wanted to keep the momma cat. And the kitten? The 6-year-old boy decided that the best person to give this kitten to was his favorite teacher. The teacher was ecstatic, but when he came to get the kitten from their home, something unexpected happened. The momma cat walked up to the teacher and laid her claim. This is her human is what she decided, not the big family. And the family did the right thing – they let the bonded pair stay with each other and go to their forever home together.
