That doesn’t sound like it should be allowed… does it?

Leaving a job can be an awkward, somewhat stressful thing. You try to leave on good terms but they don’t always make that easy. It can feel like a weird thing to stick out your neck and say that you’re moving on, even if that’s completely within your right to do. Sometimes bosses try to punish you for it, which could hurt your career in the long run. The reality is, you’re allowed to go whenever you’d like. You don’t even technically have to put a 2 week’s notice in, though you should if you can. The employee in this story tried to do everything right, but they were still being punished for it. Their boss was caught off-guard about their decision to leave, and wanted to make it the employee’s problem. Not a good look.
